Nigerian Infection Control Association
National Conference on Infection Control, Abuja, Nigeria;
27 – 29 September 2018

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the National Conference on Infection Control (NCIC) 2018 holding at Abuja, Nigeria. The Nigerian Infection Control Association (NICA) is a multidisciplinary & voluntary organization committed to improving safe patient care and promoting occupational and public health. We influence, support and improve the quality of healthcare delivery in Nigeria through the practice of infection control policies. NICA also serves as an umbrella body for all infection control practitioners at Federal, State and Community levels in the country and promotes health institutional and public awareness of infection control among other objectives.

In recent times there has been a gradual rise in the incidence of healthcare associated infections. The recent Lassa fever outbreak that occurred in 21 states of the country, had 38 healthcare workers infected with nine deaths. This serves as a wakeup call that infection prevention and control practices are grossly inadequate in our facilities and that transmission of infections does occur very frequently. In addition, the rising global increase of multidrug resistant organisms means that the urgency to pay more attention to IPC within our health facilities and in the community has become critical. Nigeria is a country with the highest population in black Africa, we therefore need to put forward a formidable force in establishing standard precautions as a standard practice in all our healthcare facilities and not practice it only during outbreaks, this is the only way to ensure and assure safe healthcare delivery which is safe both for the patients and the healthcare workforce. NCIC 2018 is a forum which provides the needed platform for raising awareness on the need for IPC and also provide the needed forum for promoting improvement in our health care delivery practices especially with regards to nosocomial infections.

The theme of this year’s conference is:
The conference is scheduled to hold from 27th – 29th September 2018 in Abuja, Nigeria. The scientific programme consists of a keynote address and plenary sessions by national and international IPC experts. There will be also several free paper and poster sessions for practitioners and researchers to present their experience and work from within Nigeria, Africa and beyond on thematic areas related to the practice of infection prevention and control. This conference promises to be a beautiful one with opportunities for networking, learning, strategizing and addressing key issues in our healthcare delivery.
We look forward to seeing you in the beautiful city of Abuja this September.
